Set the right price to ship your parcel

26 March 2019

How do you properly assess the price for transporting my coffee table, my 4 winter tyres, or my Larousse collection? What is that fair, attractive, win-win price that will save me money while motivating the future carrier?

You could flip a coin or try juggling a few concrete parameters. Don’t worry, Cocolis will guide you.

What do others do?

Benchmarking. The bench what? In other words, studying the competition or your neighbour.

It’s always worth observing what others do before making a decision. It’s all about positioning yourself. A price is only high or particularly cheap in relative terms.

That’s how Cocolis was born, by positioning itself against traditional transport providers with a cheaper alternative. The day Eliette wanted to ship her amazing chest of drawers found on Leboncoin, the price charged by carriers at the time was double the purchase price. Might as well store your jumpers in a custom-made box.

“Cocolis allows you to save up to 80% on sending parcels, items and furniture, insurance included.” Eliette, founder of Cocolis.

So start by looking at the prices offered by other senders for a similar item.

We help you: When you post your ad, Cocolis gives you the average price for a product like yours.

Take size, weight and shape into account

Don’t forget that beyond transporting your table, there’s the before and after: picking up the parcel, handing it over safely: handling a large table isn’t as easy as a cushion you can easily slip into the boot.

  • The right size is not a detail: Does your parcel fit in a shoebox, a suitcase, the boot of an estate car? Whether it takes up the whole car or slips into a pocket, it makes a difference.
  • Weight, an important detail: Small but mighty. Take a gearbox (yes, you can find that on Cocolis!), it’s tiny but weighs over 40 kilos. It might fit in a shoebox, but it’s definitely XL size.
  • Shape, a real trunk issue: a small box slips into the boot or on the back seat, but a 9-arm chandelier: will it fit through the rear window or do you need a sunroof?

Again, Cocolis will guide you:

Time is money

  • Urgent request: Are you as rushed as the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland? Looking for the Jack Bauer of parcels for your 24-hour operation? Motivate them.
  • Geographical detour: GPS is your best friend. Without it, you’d never have found that little alley unknown even to the locals. If you have to cross a wheat field, pass 2 gates, 3 roundabouts, and enter an 8-digit code to find you, it’s wise to boost your price.

Your turn. And the starting price is…????
