Parcel carpooling: ship at the best price
3 January 2019

Parcel carpooling is a new way to send or transport parcels that are bulky or heavy. It is also sometimes called “parcelpooling”. It’s practical and economical.
It allows you to easily send parcels that you can’t send via La Poste: a bicycle, a student move, etc.
It’s a variation of carpooling for people, of which Blablacar has become the world leader. The principle is quite similar. It connects someone who wants to reduce the cost of their journey with someone who needs a service.
Unlike Blablacar, parcel carpooling allows you to transport an item (parcel, furniture, appliances, etc.). Cocolis is the leading parcel carpooling site in France.
The principle of parcel carpooling is very simple.
- The person who needs to send or receive a parcel posts an advert. The advert is shown to travellers making that journey,
- The sender receives offers by email and agrees with the traveller on the delivery terms,
- They book online and the amount is held in a temporary account in their name,
- Cocolis then sends the phone numbers of the sender, recipient, and carrier to each party,
- The carrier collects the item and delivers it to the agreed location,
- The recipient gives the carrier a code to confirm delivery. This allows the carrier to receive a transfer of the agreed amount.
For sending large parcels at a lower cost
Cocolis was born from the need to transport a chest of drawers bought on Leboincoin by young parents. Their observation was simple. Transporting furniture is expensive if you use a professional. It’s not ideal if you want to buy a second-hand item from another individual.
Finally, Cocolis allows you to benefit from a much cheaper transport cost. And this, without compromising on safety. Thus, insurance covers all parcels transported up to €5,000 in case of damage or theft. For parcel insurance, Cocolis first partnered with MAIF and then with Mutuaide.
